Directing Philosophy

Directing is all about creating a big picture by paying attention to all the tiniest details.

It's reading some words on a page and immediately being able to picture what it should look like on a stage. It's delving into dissecting those words in analysis, to find the right thread to pull the whole vision together. It's the excitement (and headache) of casting, narrowing the infinite possibilities to concrete choices. It's collaborating with designers to make the vision a reality. It's planning every stage picture, knowing that the actors will bring another perspective that's bound to change it (and likely make it better).

It's spending countless hours of hard work and mental angusih in exchange for the privilege of standing in the back of a darkened theater and quietly cheering every time the actors make it through a difficult passage successfully.

"I have worked with Amanda for 20+ years in the theatre community.  I’m always impressed by her ability to work with various age groups and actors with vastly different experience levels. She brings a unique, well thought out creative slant to her work."

Amanda Perry is an artist who can do it all in the theatre. She can make the costumes, build a set, hang the lights and direct the show. She has the knowledge for all crew positions backstage yet she also has the acting abilities to really work with the actors on character development. I love working with Amanda because she always comes in with a plan. There's always creative process but you don't sit around for hours waiting to work on something. I appreciate that she values our time and our talents.

I’ve worked with Amanda in several shows, She is amazing at what she does! She knows what she’s doing and it shows. Her shows  are nothing shy of fantastic. Anything she can do, she will do. Theatre is her baby, and that child is thriving, honey! Any area of theatre, she has her hands on, whether it’s tech/acting/vocals/costumes/etc.. She’s a perfectionist and it shows. I am so grateful to have her as a director and mentor!
